Powerful opening to SCCE Compliance & Ethics Institute

September 27, 2016

The 2016 SCCE Compliance & Ethics Institute began even bigger and better this year. SCCE CEO Roy Snell announced that over 1,700 compliance professionals had registered for the event, which is celebrating its 15th anniversary. In his opening remarks, Snell spoke about the growth of the SCCE organisation in the United States and across the globe. He also shared that the worldwide compliance certification programme, which the SCCE has developed at a cost of over US$4 million, is bringing quality accreditation to the compliance profession.

Snell was followed by the first keynote speaker, Francesca Gino, who spoke on ‘Why our decisions get derailed, and how we can stick to the plan’. She talked about the three key influences that derail even the most rational decision making and plans. She also provided tips on how to watch for mission-creep to help keep those best laid plans on track.

In the second keynote, Michael Johnson discussed interviewing techniques for internal investigations. His overriding theme was that compliance professionals should not act as prosecutor – out to have a guilty party crack and admit all on the witness stand. Rather, they should view themselves as journalists – there to facilitate the interviewee telling their story.

If the rest of the week continues in the same vein as this strong opening morning, this will be the best Compliance & Ethics Institute to date.
